Overview

Overlooking Lake Kariega, the Pumba Water Lodge offers a prime spot for game viewing in one of the best areas for spotting the Big Five game in South Africa.

Like its sister camps in the Pumba Private Game Reserve, activities at the Water Lodge centre around the resort’s proximity to a diverse range of game. Guests can participate in wilderness walking trails, birding, nocturnal game drives, archery, bass fishing, and more, or even relax with a luxury trip to the Soul Spa and Gym. The main attraction is the Game Drive. On this, guests explore the malaria-free plains of the Eastern Cape, home to Africa’s Big Five as well as rare hippo, lion, cheetah, giraffes, antelope, and more than 300 bird species, by custom landrover as an intimate group.

Pumba Private Game Reserve is an eco-friendly member of the Green Leaf Conservation Initiative, making it a great home to a number of unique animals such as the White Lion. The Initiative aims to rehabilitate and conserve self-sustaining animal populations. Its most recent success in Pumba is the Leopard, which now can be frequently sighted in the area.

Guest accommodation at Water Lodge consists of 8 Impala Chalets, Gemsbok Chalet, and the Kudu Suite. Each of the Impala Chalets feature a king size bed, views overlooking Lake Cariega, en-suite facilities, and fireplaces to add warmth on chilly nights. Gemsbok Chalet is more spacious and comes with a daybed, and the Kudu Suite has two bedrooms separated by a large lounge, a wrap-around deck area, a steam room, and private plunge pool.

The Water Lodge also welcomes families with children over the age of 6. There is a ‘Kids on Safari’ to accommodate child adventurers, and the Kudu Suite is suitable for families. The intimacy of the Water Lodge to the surrounding plains means that it is a great place for families with younger children to experience the African bush veld together.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
