Overview

Set at the foot of the legendary Ghost Mountain in Mkuze, northern KwaZulu Natal, this privately owned large four star inn lies in the heart of South Africa’s Zulu Kingdom, making it a good value option from which to explore the game and coastal reserves in the area. Whilst we prefer to recommend a stay in a small lodge within a reserve (such as Rhino Ridge or Rhino River), this is a good fall back when budget doesn't allow. You can use Ghost Mountain as a base for game drives in Manyoni Game Reserve and Hluhluwe National Park.

There are a variety of room types available. The Suite has a separate living room, a bedroom with an extra length king size bed, changing room, large bathroom, standalone tub and outdoor shower in a secluded garden. The Garden rooms have a lounge, king size or three-quarter twin beds, bathrooms and a patio overlooking the gardens or pool. Guests in the Superior rooms have upgraded linens and amenities, patios overlooking a stretch of water and the Lebombo mountains, bathrooms with a separate shower and bath, and king or three-quarter twin beds. The Standard rooms, meanwhile, offer comfortable en suite accommodation with a private patio facing part of the garden or pool, and twin or double beds.

Children are welcome in the Garden rooms and Suite, and can join the safaris, but must be over 16 for the game walks. Younger guests can enjoy the ‘grubby bug walks’ instead or a nature treasure hunt. There are two pools, one of which is a rock pool in the secluded spa area. There is a comfortable lounge, and Roy’s Bar offers the opportunity to meet other guests over a drink. Seasonal food using local ingredients is served in the dining room, outside on the terrace or under the stars in a traditional boma.

The inn offers lots of tour options, including boat trips on Lake Jozini and a visit to the homestead of a Myeni family, providing a unique opportunity to experience some real African culture.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
