Overview

Riverbend Lodge is a superb family friendly luxury safari lodge situated on a private concession adjoining Addo National Park. The plot of land is gorgeous, taking pride of place in Addo where the park meets the Zuurberg Mountains. The quality of guiding here is amongst the best we have experienced in the Eastern Cape and the level of service is similarly exceptional.

Being part of Addo, the game can be less concentrated than in some of the other private reserves, but that only lends it a greater authenticity and sense of wilderness. Located on a 14000ha private concession within the world famous Addo Elephant National Park, the region is home to an abundance of wildlife including the Big 5 and over 300 bird species and is famed in particular for its massive elephant population. The lodge itself is a very high end colonial farm-stead. There are 7 Luxury Suites, 4 of which have interconnecting doors and all of which have secluded verandas and views across the plains, ostrich and other game can often be viewed from the verandas. There is also a courtyard swimming pool.

River Bend goes to great lengths to accommodate families and comes highly recommended. There are kid’s menus, dedicated children’s activities and complimentary baby sitting on offer, but it is really simply the quality of the guides and staff that makes this place so welcoming for families. For those with younger children, River Bend is one of the few lodges in South Africa which allow children of any ages on shared game drives. Drives are of course adapted for the children and families will only share drives with other families, not couples. It is worth noting that there is a separate farm-stead available for rental for larger family groups.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
