Overview

Sibuya River Camp is a small bush camp in the stunning but small Sibuya Game Reserve, a private reserve home to over 400 bird species and plenty of land animals including the infamous Big Five.

River Camp consists of four very roomy luxury tents that are individually designed and spaced reasonably well apart to afford guests as much privacy as possible. Each tent comes with its own fireplace, along with an en-suite bathroom with both a bathtub and a shower, and a private viewing deck. In line with the reserve’s environmentally friendly policies, the lodge is entirely solar-powered (although there is gas back-up in case of inclement weather). Note, therefore, that there’s no Wi-Fi or televisions, and no air conditioning, fans or hairdryers – this is a chance to kick back and relax, away from the demands of normal day to day life. Meals are mostly served buffet-style and feature a broad selection of appetising African delicacies. Some dinners may be served under the stars or by an open fire in the boma area; picnics can also be provided for those looking to spend a long time away from the lodge out on safari.

River Camp is a superb base for exploring the reserve and discovering its abundance of wildlife. Numerous different nature-based activities are available from thrilling game drives and exciting birdwatching walks, to laidback river cruises and challenging canoe expeditions. Some activities, such as horseback riding, deep sea fishing and spa treatments, are possible for an extra fee.

While the lodge is very family friendly, those travelling with children under the age of three are recommended to use the babysitting service when going out on a game drive. It’s very rare for animals to approach humans or tents, but parents are reminded to keep children of all ages under adult supervision at all times.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
