Overview

Mekong Lodge is an independent eco-resort in the town of Cai Be, in the Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam. Nestled on the banks of the Tien River, the property offers friendly, attentive service along with 30 bungalows, a restaurant and bar with waterside views and a lovely swimming pool, all set in pretty gardens filled with tropical plants and fruit trees. The lodge is a great mid-range option for travellers seeking a comfortable and relaxing base from which to explore the fascinating Mekong Delta.

The extensive grounds house a restaurant and bar overlooking the river, great for watching life on the water, and a lovely spot for sundowners. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in communal areas. The restaurant offers all-day dining, with buffet breakfasts and a variety of international and Vietnamese dishes, including local specialities. Private dining and candle-lit dinners in the lovely gardens can also be arranged.

A complimentary boat transfer to Mekong Lodge is available to guests arriving from nearby Cai Be. This traditional Delta town is popular for its bustling floating market, whilst the tranquil orchards, paddy fields, rustic villages, and meandering waterways of the surrounding area make it ideal for fishing, hiking, and cycling. Mekong Lodge prides itself on its eco-friendly ethos and commitment to responsible tourism. Locally sourced materials, solar energy and rain water are used throughout the resort. Most of the staff are employed from the local community, and the management is regularly involved in supporting local schools and fair trade initiatives.

The accommodation comprises 30 traditionally designed, spacious bungalows with thatched roofs, tiled floors, and bamboo furniture. Each air conditioned eco-bungalow is solar powered, and offers a double or twin beds, plus a simple seating area, and a private outdoor bathroom featuring bathtub and shower. Outside is a private terrace with seating and either garden or river views. Several bungalows also come with their own plunge pool. Note that the lodge’s atmospheric waterside location means inevitable passing river traffic; guests preferring more privacy may wish to request a room overlooking the garden, rather than the river.

Children are welcome at Mekong Lodge and while there are no child specific activities on site, the super pool and garden will appeal to guests of all ages. Extra beds can be supplied, subject to prior arrangement, and babysitting can be arranged on request. Due to the unfenced pool and riverside location, parents are reminded to supervise their children at all times.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We just wanted to thank you for an absolutely amazing holiday. Everything went exactly to plan and we were blown away with the quality of the guides, transport and accommodation. The itinerary was perfect for our family with a great mix of guided and free days and the different destinations complemented each other well. We will definitely be using Tourdust again for our next trip! Particular highlights were the Ha Long Bay cruise, Hanoi, and the morning cycle tour in Siam Reap
