Walking in Wales, it is not difficult to see why it is famous for its natural assets, boasting verdant valleys, magnificent hills and a wild coastline. Wales' coastline gets more dramatic as you explore into Pembrokeshire, the Llyn Peninsula and the Ceredigion Coast whilst the mountainous Rhinogs, Preseli Mountains and Breacon Beacons National Park all offer superb fodder for a walking holiday in Wales. It isn't all about the natural assets either, Wales is host to a complex past and is riddled with many of the UK's finest castles and Celtic architecture.

One of the highlights of hiking in Wales must be the Pembrokeshire Way, passing countless stunning beaches, ancient forts and the delightful fishing ports of Solva, Tenby and Porthgain. The wildlife is equally impressive with fair chance of spotting seals, porpoises and occasionally for the lucky - Whales. By contrast The Wye Valley offers an equally stunning if completely different landscape for a walking holiday in Wales. The Wye flows through the valley surrounded by rolling meadows, thick forest and gentle hills. The market towns are renowned for their foody scene and farmer's markets and the wildlife includes otters, kingfishers and the majestic red kite.
For those serious about their hiking Wales offers the dramatic Snowdonia National Park, the jewel of which are the Rhinogs, off the main tourist track - so you'll get a real taste of the Welsh mountain wilderness. Alternatively if you want some of the best of Wales in a microcosm Anglesey offers a gentle walking holiday in Wales, with easy-going terrain, reams of lovely coastline (it is a small island after all) and a massive concentration of historical sites.
