The Grand Canyon, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, stretches 227 miles in length, 10 miles wide and a staggering 1 mile deep. A national park since 1919 it is a must see on anyone’s South West America holiday itinerary. The majority of visitors come in their cars and take in the magnificent views from the scenic drives and walks around the rim. However, if you want to get a more unique perspective, there is no alternative to exploring by foot. Getting beneath the rim of the Grand Canyon allows you to escape some of the crowds and gain an appreciation for the different rock layers and sheer size of the canyon.
If you are travelling with children, then you may want to consider our West USA hiking holiday, which includes a three day mule supported trek to the stunning Havasu Falls. If trekking is your passion, then it doesn’t get much better than our 4 day rim to rim backpacking adventure. For those not wanting to carry their own packs, then we suggest the mule-supported trek to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
