Pumba is a 6,500 hectares private game reserve in the Eastern Cape & Addo region and neighbouring the likes of Amakhala, Shamwari and Lalibela Game Reserves. Although a relatively small reserve, there are only two lodges on the reserve, both 5 star luxury lodges, and the reserve features all of the big 5.
Pumba's convenient location at the end of the Garden Route makes it a great option for a short first time safari and it is particularly suitable for families with young children. Whilst it won't feel as wild as the Kruger here, the scenery is stunning and there is plenty of wildlife to see.
For those looking to stay on-site, there are two options: the Water Lodge and the Bush Lodge. The former offers a dozen chalets overlooking Lake Kariega, while the latter has 11 chalets that look out on to a watering hole with a mountainous backdrop. All accommodation options at the two lodges come with a private viewing deck complete with plunge pool.
