Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is one of the best safari options in the Eastern Cape Game Reserve. The reserve covers 22,000 hectares and manages to maintain a genuine sense of wilderness and wildlife in their natural habitat.
Kwandwe features all of the big five, namely the African elephant, the Cape buffalo, the lion, the rhinoceros and the leopard. What stands it apart from nearby neighbours, Shamwari, Amakhala, Lalibela and Pumba is the size of the reserve and relatively low number of guests. For this reason, Kwandwe is one of the best malaria free safari options in South Africa. We usually recommend Kwandwe as part of a self drive itinerary covering Cape Town and the Garden Route.
Kwandwe offers 5 luxury accommodations consisting of two luxury lodges and three expansive private villas to be used by a single group at a time. Across the five options, there are 26 rooms accommodating a maximum of 52 guests at any one time. Just like other reserves in the province, Kwandwe Game Reserve is worth visiting at any time of year.
