Combining Angkor with Thailand is relatively easy with a quick 1 hour flight between Bangkok and Siem Reap.
This itinerary includes the highlights of Thailand (Bangkok, Beach and Khao Sok National Park) with arguably the cultural highlight of the entire SE Asian region, Angkor Wat.
For a slower, more relaxed pace, you could easily foregoe the delights of Khao Sok National Park and finish with a week on the beach.
For this itinerary we have suggested Khoa Lak for the beach as it is relatively easy to get to after the flight from Siem Reap and connects well to Elephant Hills. However, it would also be possible to combine instead with beach resorts on Koh Samui (East Coast), Krabi, Koh Lanta or Koh Yao Noi.
Day 1: Overnight Flight to Bangkok
Day 2-5: You'll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. You will have three nights and two full days to explore Bangkok. Getting around independently is easy with the skytrain, metro and river boats. The food in Bangkok is incredible, and it is well worth taking the effort to explore the local eats. After a long flight, we recommend staying at a hotel with a nice pool to rest and recover. Then it is nice to have a couple of days in Bangkok so you can take it all at a nice and easy pace. With one day to explore the magnificent Grand Palace and Wat Pho and one day to perhaps take a walking food tour or a guided river trip on a local long tail boat.
Day 5-8: Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Siem Reap. With three days in Siem Reap we usually recommend one day to explore Angkor Wat with a guide and then a day exploring the countryside and some quiet temples by bike.
Day 8-12: Transfer to airport for flight to Phuket (usually via Bangkok). It is then an hour's drive North to the beach resort at Khao Lak. There are lots of options when it comes to beach hotels in this area, from quiet island retreats to buzzing tourist towns, let us know your preference!
Day 12 - 14: Transfer by road to Elephant Hills Camp in Khao Sok National Park. Elephant Hills is the nearest thing to a luxury safari camp in Thailand. It is a superb, world leading elephant conservation center set amidst the stunning natural beauty of the National Park. Activities include kayaking, jungle hikes and the famous elephant experience.
Day 14: Transfer to Phuket Airport for flight home via Dubai or Bangkok.

We would tend to book an open jaw into Bangkok and out of Phuket for this itinerary.
Highlights of Thailand and Angkor
This is suitable year round, but we will tend to adjust the location of the beach hotel depending on the season.
The worst of the rainy season is September and October and best avoided.
November through to April is the dry and sunny season.
Between May and August, the start of the rainy season, rain on the mainland tends to be limited to short sharp downpours in the afternoon. but the East Coast Islands tend to stay dry and sunny at this time of year - so we tend to pick these for the beach element.

Thank you yet again for another meticulously organised and executed holiday (our 5th with you). Every aspect worked perfectly.
Please could you pass on our sincere thanks to your agent in Sri Lanka; Lakshita, our driver and guide, absolutely made the trip for us - he was so keen for us to have the best experience possible. He was organised, kind, interested, punctual, the car was always spotless, and he was an excellent driver. His extensive knowledge was really appreciated by us and was exactly what we had hoped for in a guide. I think the highlight for us was our day in Anuradhapura (7 hours of absorbing history and culture), but there was so much to learn and absorb every day. He also made several suggestions for things that he thought we might like that weren't in our itinerary, and then booked them for us. These included an ayurvedic massage after climbing Sigiriya, a cultural show (an hour of touristy fun!), reef snorkelling with turtles (a real highlight for me - I wish we could have stayed all day), a lagoon boat trip and visit to a cinnamon island, a turtle sanctuary visit, and a gemstone factory visit. He also managed to get us a private tour of Lunanguga, which Peter thoroughly enjoyed. We also really enjoyed the tea factory tour.
Our guide for the hike was also really excellent, and he and Lakshita made sure that our day was perfectly tailored to our (my) ability.
All our accommodation was also perfectly selected. Our favourite was the Ceylon tea trails bungalow (just perfect!), but The Villa Bentota came a close second as a perfect way to relax at the end of the trip. Our villa and the grounds at Uga at Ulagalla were also beautiful.
(Our only slightly disappointing day was the whale watching - no whales wanted to be seen on that particular day, plus I was very sea-sick despite taking meds! The tour organisers offered us a repeat day the following day, which we declined! Having said that, being out on the water was still enjoyable, up to a point...).
I'm sure I've missed out something - we basically loved it all and felt that the balance of the itinerary was perfect for us (we used the 'rest' day in Galle to do the snorkelling, lagoon, and turtles)
Thank you very, very much.

We just wanted to thank you for an absolutely amazing holiday. Everything went exactly to plan and we were blown away with the quality of the guides, transport and accommodation. The itinerary was perfect for our family with a great mix of guided and free days and the different destinations complemented each other well. We will definitely be using Tourdust again for our next trip! Particular highlights were the Ha Long Bay cruise, Hanoi, and the morning cycle tour in Siam Reap
