Overview

Elephant Hills is a luxurious tented camp in Southern Thailand, offering superb multi-day adventure tours within the Khao Sok National Park, thought to contain over 5% of all animal species in the world. It enjoys a peaceful and somewhat secluded location, though popular beachside towns and cities such as Krabi and Phuket are within easy reach.

The accommodation comprises 35 stylish and upmarket tents; all of them are designed to offer plenty of space and come with amenities such as tea and coffee making facilities, a shower with both hot and cold water, a fan and a hairdryer. Mosquitoes and other insects are prevalent in the area, though all of the tents offer sufficient protection against them. Furniture is made by local craftsmen, with only locally sourced materials used.

The highlight of staying at Elephant Hills Camp is undoubtedly the ‘Elephant Experience’, which allows guests to not only see elephants up close, but also to feed, wash and interact with them. Some of the many exciting activities in and around the camp include canoeing, hiking, cooking demonstrations, dance shows, trips to local markets, wildlife spotting and exploring a lake in a traditional long-tail boat.

Facilities at the campsite are plentiful, so guests will find plenty to do in between activities. There’s a swimming pool with spectacular views, a small fish pond and a herb garden with peppers, pineapples, chilies and more. All meals are served in the open-air restaurant and drinks are served at the bar. Newspapers and maps are provided and there’s a souvenir shop selling mementos and trinkets.

Children must be at least four years old to stay at Elephant Hills Camp and take part in the adventures on offer and parents may wish to consider the ‘Rainforest Nature Safari’ which is tailored to families with young children. Some visitors might wish to combine their visit with a stay at the sister camp Elephant Hills Rainforest Camp – but note that children must be at least seven years of age to stay in this somewhat more remote accommodation. Due to the camp’s open location within a national park, parents should keep a close eye on their children at all times.

  • Thank you yet again for another meticulously organised and executed holiday (our 5th with you). Every aspect worked perfectly.
Please could you pass on our sincere thanks to your agent in Sri Lanka; Lakshita, our driver and guide, absolutely made the trip for us - he was so keen for us to have the best experience possible. He was organised, kind, interested, punctual, the car was always spotless, and he was an excellent driver. His extensive knowledge was really appreciated by us and was exactly what we had hoped for in a guide. I think the highlight for us was our day in Anuradhapura (7 hours of absorbing history and culture), but there was so much to learn and absorb every day. He also made several suggestions for things that he thought we might like that weren't in our itinerary, and then booked them for us. These included an ayurvedic massage after climbing Sigiriya, a cultural show (an hour of touristy fun!), reef snorkelling with turtles (a real highlight for me - I wish we could have stayed all day), a lagoon boat trip and visit to a cinnamon island, a turtle sanctuary visit, and a gemstone factory visit. He also managed to get us a private tour of Lunanguga, which Peter thoroughly enjoyed. We also really enjoyed the tea factory tour.
Our guide for the hike was also really excellent, and he and Lakshita made sure that our day was perfectly tailored to our (my) ability.
All our accommodation was also perfectly selected. Our favourite was the Ceylon tea trails bungalow (just perfect!), but The Villa Bentota came a close second as a perfect way to relax at the end of the trip. Our villa and the grounds at Uga at Ulagalla were also beautiful.
(Our only slightly disappointing day was the whale watching - no whales wanted to be seen on that particular day, plus I was very sea-sick despite taking meds! The tour organisers offered us a repeat day the following day, which we declined! Having said that, being out on the water was still enjoyable, up to a point...).
I'm sure I've missed out something - we basically loved it all and felt that the balance of the itinerary was perfect for us (we used the 'rest' day in Galle to do the snorkelling, lagoon, and turtles)
    Thank you very, very much.

  • We just wanted to thank you for an absolutely amazing holiday. Everything went exactly to plan and we were blown away with the quality of the guides, transport and accommodation. The itinerary was perfect for our family with a great mix of guided and free days and the different destinations complemented each other well. We will definitely be using Tourdust again for our next trip! Particular highlights were the Ha Long Bay cruise, Hanoi, and the morning cycle tour in Siam Reap
