There are plenty of hotels to choose from around Ait Ben Haddou, as it is a popular tourist destination, but we prefer Kasbah Ellouze, which is away from the madding crowds. Situated in a small hamlet, this 10 bed kasbah offers comfortable simple accommodation complete with a pool (heated between November and February). The French owners take an active role in management and you can tell, with thoughtful touches and delicious home-made biscuits. Michel used to be a professional cook and whilst he no longer cooks himself, he is heavily involved in designing the menu.

For warmer days, there is a beautiful roof terrace and balcony, for colder evenings, there are 2 salons and a jazz-themed lounge where you can relax.

From the Kasbah it is a lovely 2-3 hr walk along the valley (or short drive) to Kasbah Ait Benhaddou. The hotel also organises lovely walks out to ancient granaries and troglodyte caves in the vicinity. Around 4-5hrs drive from Marrakech, Kasbah Ellouze is a perfect hotel for those wanting to get a taste of the desert without all the driving required to get out to the dunes at Erg Chegaga and Erg Chebbi. It is worth pointing out this is not a luxury hotel, but the warm service means it is invariably better than more luxurious offerings in the area.

  • Thank you, Lisa! Our trip was wonderful even with the weather disruption. We loved seeing so many different parts of the country, meeting people and experiencing the culture. The desert was surely a highlight for our boys and the creativity and artisanship of everything from food to crafts were a highlight for me. A special shout out to our guide and driver, they became a special part of our trip and we will forever be grateful for meeting them and learning from them. I cannot believe we had to wait three years for this adventure but it was certainly worth the wait! Thanks for all your help building the itinerary, modifying it and troubleshooting during our stay. • Hi Lisa,

Sorry for the late reply - I blissfully didn’t check emails while we were away.

Well I must say - THANK YOU. That was a seamlessly organised, mind-blowing trip! It was everything we dreamed of and so much more.

The hotels, people and places were magical. We just loved every single moment of that totally epic adventure.

We will be back in touch when we are ready for our next one!

Thank you so much and well done for such a brilliantly organised trip.
