Your holiday begins in Istanbul, the ancient capital of the Ottoman Empire. Staying in the old quarter, you are in easy walking distance of the main sights, including the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and Aya Sofia. A short tram ride away and slightly less heavy on culture, you can take a relaxing cruise on the Bosphorus or explore the Grand Bazaar. At the end of a long day on your feet, you can sit back and relax on the roof terrace with beautiful views. For your stay, we recommend one of Istanbul's boutique hotels, but there are larger hotels we can recommend if you would prefer to have a pool.

After the buzz of Istanbul you will fly to Dalaman and transfer to the picturesque town of Dalyan in South West Turkey, located on the River Kaunos, about a 30 minute boat trip to the sea. The town has retained its character and whilst it is popular with tourists, there are no high rise hotels or thumping night clubs. It is the hub town for adventure tourism in the region. This week is all about combining adventure, relaxation and quality family time. You will spend a day seeing the beautiful coast by kayak, paddling through turquoise waters and exploring the numerous coves and secluded bays that this coastline has to offer. Another day is spent on a boat trip visiting the snorkelling highlights of the area, including a cave that you can swim through. After your fill of coast based activities, you will then head inland and spend a day canyoning and swimming in the naturally formed rock pools. In between these activities, you have days at leisure when you will be based in Dalyan. On these days, you can see the ancient rock tombs and visit the ancient Kaunos ruins, catch a boat and spend the day at the beach, or simply relax at your hotel, by the pool.

If you prefer we can extend your stay in Dalyan to make this into a two week holiday.

This is a tailormade holiday and we can suggest extending your stay in Dalyan if you would prefer a two week holiday.

You will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your hotel.

This morning, you will no doubt be raring to go, looking forward to a day of sightseeing ahead. We can arrange a guide for you, but Istanbul is very easy to navigate on foot and on the excellent tram system. We suggest you start your day with a visit to one of Istanbul's most iconic sights: the Blue Mosque. This moisque is still in use, so it will be closed during prayer times so check with your hotel Reception before you head out. Marvel at the incredible architecture of this beautiful building which seems to float above Istanbul. After visiting the Blue Mosque, you will want to see the Aya Sofia, built originally as a basilica and then converted to a mosque. After lunch, possibly in a cafe over-looking the Bosphorus, head to the eerie Basilica Cistern, an underground water cistern buit in Byzantine times. In the afternoon, you might want to go on a Bosphorus cruise. There are several companies offering guided tours, but we suggest that you take the tram to the ferry terminal and go for a 2 1/2 hour cruise. If you have more time, you could spend the day hopping from port to port along the river, using local ferries.
Meals Included: Breakfast only included

This morning we suggest that you get up early and go to the Topkapi Palace. The palace complex gets very busy during the day, so we suggest you go there first thing to avoid the worst of the crowds. Expect to spend a good few hours there, making sure that you visit the harem (you have to pay extra for entrance, but it is more than worth it.) After lunch, you might want to catch the tram to the Grand Bazaar, wander around the stalls and indluge in a spot of shopping.
Meals Included: Breakfast only included

Today is the first of your planned activities. You will have a 30-minute transfer by jeep Sarigerme beach where you will all unload your kayaks. There, you will receive a safety briefing and instructions on how to use the kayak and how to paddle
Once everybody is ready, you leave Sarigerme beach for nearby Baba Island. Paddling out from a flat river mouth to the open sea, you reach the island, then paddle along the coast to the high open cave. Here you can see thousands of colours at the bottom of the sea through the crystal clear water. On one of the small inlets there is time to relax, swim, jump off a high rock and enjoy a snack. If you have brought your own snorkel gear you can do some snorkelling. Following the Southern shore of the island, you continue on to a sandy beach. There will be time for more swimming or sunbathing while your guide prepares a picnic lunch. In the afternoon you begin your return paddle along the northern shore of the island with a quick stop on a pebble beach. While paddling between the rocks you can see the fish swimming under your kayak. Alternatively, you may paddle close to the Sarigerme beach, depending on the weather and the sea conditions. Once you reach the river mouth, you paddle upstream for a short while and end the tour back at the start point. After loading the kayaks, you drive back to Dalyan in jeeps.
Meals Included: Breakfast and lunch included
Accommodation: Calypso Plus

Today is a day at leisure for you to explore the pretty town of Dalyan. You might decide to get a rowing boat across the river and then walk down to the ancient Kaunos ruins, complete with amphitheatre and ancient baths. Alternatively, you might choose to jump on a boat downstream to the beach.
Meals Included: Breakfast only included

After meeting with your group, your day trip will begin with you start with sailing down the Kaunos river to the open sea. Passing the Iztuzu beach and the ‘Delik Ada’ (island with a hole), you head first to the bay of Ekincik. Your first stop will be near a cave which offers great underwater scapes. You can jump in the crystal clear water and snorkel through the cave to the other side where the boat will pick you up again. In the cave you will see a variety of marine life life and fantastic coloured rock formations.

Once everybody is back on board, you sail on to another small bay, Semizce. The Captain will throw out the anchor and everybody can jump in to snorkel or swim, or simply stay on board to relax or play on the sandy beach... Meanwhile your lunch will be prepared: a delicious BBQ, served with home-made ‘meze’ (starters), salad and grilled vegetables...After lunch, on to another bay for some more marine wildlife and nice beaches... Snorkel to see octopus, garfish, rockling, seabream, sea urchin, and many more... Once you have had your fill of marine life, you can get back on the boat to enjoy a fresh fruit platter!

On the way back to Dalyan, the final stop will be at Lake Çandir in the delta for more swimming, but this time in naturally hot waters. The day ends in the late afternoon, when you will be dropped off in Dalyan.
Overnight: Dalyan

When is best?

The summer months are very hot, with day time highs of 34C, sometime peaking at 40C. The summer evenings are warm, with average temperatures of 20C - 25C. The spring & autumn months are cooler, with highs between 21C - 30C. Rain is possible, but unlikely in the summer months, spring and autumn can see some showers.

The sea temperature is warmest from July - October.

Is it for me?

This is the perfect holiday for active families with a sense of adventure. It is suitable for children ages 8 and over. If your children are under 8, then you might want to consider our family gulet holiday. Due to the nature of the activities involved and to maximise your enjoyment, we recommend that everyone in your family can swim.

The activities will be with other people, with maximum group sizes of 14 for the canyoning and sea kayaking and 25 on the snorkelling trip. Other participants will be a mixture of families and adults.

On the sea kayaking excursion, children aged between 8 - 12 will need to go in a kayak with an adult.

Dalyan itself is a family friendly destination, well away from the bright lights and night clubs found further along the coast. The town is centred around a central square, which houses a lovely playground where the children can play whilst their parents can enjoy a drink and watch the world go by.

  • On the first week the guides and staff were really flexible on times to transfer to and from Lopud which was really helpful. We were due to leave Dubrovnik on the 6 pm ferry on the Sunday but as it was so hot we decided to take the earlier ferry as suggested by the Adria rep.

Accommodation in Dubrovnik was comfortable. We explored a little outside Dubrovnik city and wondered if it might have been nicer to stay nearer one of the little coves, five minutes from the city gates to get out the city.

The sea kayaking week was excellent. Great guides and good trips. The accommodation was really comfortable - lovely family and the air condition was rather essential! I think we had booked a family trip but the guides asked if we would like to join a larger group which we did and this worked really well. Kayak trips were superb - about the right length and a good mix of destinations including the botanical gardens and lots of time to swim and snorkel. It was surprisingly manageable despite the heat. At the end we wished we had booked the 5 day tour. The farm evening meal was great fun.

The two nights at Hotel More were a lovely bit of luxury. Really liked the hotel - quite small and slightly away from the main areas of activity in the bay. Again good advice on how to get around from staff.

The second week with Huck Finn was also excellent. A good mix of activities - the rafting day in Bosnia was particularly good as we got to see a different country - quite a contrast with Croatia. Guides were again really good - very well informed and all trips were well organised. All transfers good. We had breakfast and evening meals with a local family which were lovely - lots of traditional cooking and they catered really well for different dietary requirements. The accommodation was rather more basic. We had two rooms on an upper floor with a shared bathroom so not our own space. It seemed that the accommodation varied quite a lot with others having small apartments with kitchens and fridges, which would have been helpful. Weather had cooled a little by then which was good as we would have had no means to cool the rooms down at night. Having said that our owner was a lovely lady - made us cakes and apple strudel when we came home at the end of the day.

All in all an excellent trip!

  • My kayak tour with Tour dust is an experience I will treasure forever. I believe Johnny is exactly the type of guide everyone hopes for on a trip like this. Upbeat, funny, enthusiastic, and an incredible level of skill in this sport. I have been kayaking for many years, but, being over 60 years old now, I certainly appreciated knowing we were in such very, very capable hands.
And the other people who took part in the trip? What a great bunch! It's hard to believe we were mostly complete strangers just one week ago. I will treasure those friendships forever as well.

  • On our final night now in Dubrovnik sadly.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first half Tourdust arranged with all the kayaking etc. our son was very sad to leave and preferred the earlier part of our trip to the second half chilling by the pool!

Accommodation was 'ok', activities were just enough, some people couldn't keep up with the amount of kayaking but for us it was just the right amount. Johnny and Mattie were superb, they went out of their way to ensure everyone was happy all the time (I hope Tourdust look after them as they are a great asset to the company!!).

They took us to some great restaurants, arranged all the transport and ensured everyone was safe during the activities.

5 out of 5 to you guys, we hope to be back!!
