Overview

Waking up to the South African wilderness is a great way to start the day and one that Msenge Bush Lodge facilitates. Its glass-enclosed chalets located in the heart of the Pumba Private Game Reserve offer guests first-rate views of a diverse range of Big Five Game from the comfort of their armchairs and expert-led Game Drives.

Guest accommodation consists of 11 glass-enclosed thatched chalets. Whilst the chalets do feature glass-panelled walls, they still ensure privacy, with the surrounding wildlife forming a natural shield from curious hyenas or elephants. Each chalet has its own private wooden deck and plunge pool, which overlooks a watering hole and has great views of the Zuurberg Mountains, and is fitted with en-suite bathrooms, outdoor showers, and twin or king-size beds.

Activities at the Bush Lodge focus on exploring the surrounding wildlife. Guests can participate in wilderness walking trails, birding, nocturnal game drives, archery, bass fishing, and more, or even relax with a luxury trip to the Soul Spa and Gym. The main attraction is the Game Drive. On this, guests explore the malaria-free plains of the Eastern Cape, home to Africa’s Big Five as well as rare hippo, lion, cheetah, giraffes, antelope, and more than 300 bird species, by custom landrover as an intimate group.

Pumba Private Game Reserve is an eco-friendly member of the Green Leaf Conservation Initiative, making it a great home to a number of unique animals such as the White Lion. The Initiative aims to rehabilitate and conserve self-sustaining animal populations. Its most recent success in Pumba is the Leopard, which now can be frequently sighted in the area.

The Bush Lodge also welcomes families with children over the age of 6. There is a ‘Kids on Safari’ to accommodate child adventurers, and a unit exclusively for families. Chalet 9 is the family chalet, and has two private bedrooms with a shared entrance so everyone can experience the African bush together. The intimacy of the Bush Lodge to its surrounding floodplain ecology means that it is a great place for families with younger children to experience the African bush veld together.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
