Wine Tasting Weekend Break in Bordeaux

Explore the famous Bordeaux wine region of France with this classy wine tasting weekend break staying in a sleepy village vineyard. Taste and learn all there is to know about the region’s fine wine at an all-day wine workshop, tour famous Grand Cru vineyards and eat magnificently, all in rustic tranquility.

Bordeaux is near the Atlantic coast in south-western France and Bordeaux wine takes the name from the region’s main port and city; the region spreads 60 miles around the city. With a short winter, hot summers and temperate winters the region produces some of the world’s finest and most famous wines, red and white, in fertile valleys dotted with picturesque villages.

Besides wine, Bordeaux city boasts an intoxicating mix of culture and architecture, museums and three UNESCO world heritage monuments: Saint Michel Basilica, Saint Andre Cathedral and Saint Seurin Basilica, that mark the French pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

The delights of this wine tasting weekend break include a full day’s Wine Workshop. This will unlock the mysteries of the ‘appelation’ or naming system of French Grand Crus then illustrate the subtleties of vineyard, geography and soil with a healthy tasting session followed by an afternoon of winemaking. The pace is gentle and snacks and lunch are included so the fun/drinking is uninterrupted!

The next day is a tour of the Grand Cru vineyard and their old chateaux and warehouses where you can sample the delights and put your knowledge to the test in stylish surrounding rich in wine-making history.

This is an elegant mini-break in a delightfully high-brow region of France, perfect for a couple of any age. There is no need to be a wine snob as the workshop is tailor made for all levels of knowledge and your hosts and guides will be very friendly. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway in Europe with the right mixture of culture, history and alcohol, this is a great option. Being able to rent a car is a plus point as pick up is not included and train services are less reliable.
