Anglesey Coastal Path

Challenge yourself on this walking holiday where you’ll walk around the whole island on the Anglesey Coastal Path. And if you fancy something a little bit different, you can factor in a daytrip to Ireland too.

Over the narrow stretch of water called the Menai Strait lies the small Isle of Anglesey – an island once holy to the Celts and a place where the Welsh language is still flourishing. It’s a goldmine of ancient sites, beautiful coastal paths and picturesque seaside villages. And it wasn’t until 1826, when Thomas Telford built the Menai Straits Bridge, that the Isle of Anglesey had a permanent anchorage to the mainland. In comparison to Snowdonia which looms in the distance, the Isle of Anglesey is easygoing underfoot and offers an abundance of gentle coastal walks with sweeping sea views.

On this walking holiday, you will walk around the whole of the Anglesey. The walking is self-guided, but you will be dropped off at the start point each morning and then picked up again in the evening and taken to your accommodation. Your luggage is all taken care of as well, so all you can enjoy walking at your own pace and enjoying the views!

Anglesey may well be small, but it’s got the biggest concentration of historical sites in all of Wales – about 20 in total including the Neolithic burial ground of Bryn Celli Ddu. The most impressive though, has to be Beaumaris Castle which you’ll see on your fourth day here. It was started in 1295 and, even though unfinished, it’s still impressive enough for UNESCO to have designated it a World Heritage Site. Anglesey has more than just manmade assets though. Take the beach at Ynys Llanddwyn for instance. This glorious curve of sand on Llanddwyn Island is dotted with rocks and marked by a stark-white lighthouse at one end. And if you’re after a little extra adventure take a daytrip over to the emerald isle on the ferry from Holyhead.

You’ll have to be a keen walker for this one, as most people couldn’t (or would probably prefer not to) handle 13 days of walking. So, yes, it’s a bit of a challenge, but there’ll be plenty in the way of rewards – like great views, sightseeing and lots of cosy pubs along the way. You also won’t have to worry about any of the logistics side of things as the team organises this all for you. Great for solo travellers or those looking to spend lots of quality time together.
