Bath and Heritage Walking Tour

The ancient city of Bath has been held in high esteem for its hot springs ever since Roman times, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This leisurely five night tour can be guided or self-guided and gives you the chance to explore the City and its spectacular rural surroundings.

Comprising the historic counties of Devon, Dorset, Cornwall and Somerset, as well as the cities of Bristol, Plymouth and Exeter, the West Country is Britain’s agricultural heartland. The region is renowned for its moors, downland and spectacular coastline, as well as for its rich cultural heritage that included Neolithic sites, Roman settlements, the World Heritage city of Bath and countless medieval castles that are amongst the finest in Britain. The West Country is also much-loved for its tasty local produce, from ciders and beers to cheeses and clotted cream.

This five night tour allows you to discover this fantastic landscape under your own steam. Based just outside Bath, you’ll enjoy charming waterside walks along the Kennet and Avon Canal, the River Avon and the River Frome. At the top of Bathampton woods you’ll find spectacular views over Bath’s Georgian cityscape, while the magical castle of Farleigh Hungerford and the vast Longleat Estate, home of the colourful Lord Bath, also feature in the tour. Other highlights include the Iron Age fort at Whitesheet Hill and the whimsical gothic tower of King Alfred, once described as ‘a monument to the genius of the English landscape’!

A great tour covering some of England’s most iconic countryside. You’ll only need to be in good health for these walks. Although you’re not covering any mammoth distances – you’ll average about 8 miles per day. There are plenty of villages with cosy pubs and decent regional ales. The tour is self-guided (you’ll be given a detailed map with route notes) so you can explore the countryside at your own pace, leaving plenty of time for photography, wildlife-spotting and other interests.
