Get up close and personal with some of Africa’s most charismatic creatures and master the art of wildlife photography at the same time! This 10-day photographic safari in South Africa will have you taking shots like a pro in no time!
Ranked sixth out of the world’s seventeen megadiverse countries, South Africa is home to a mind-boggling wealth of plant and animal life. A large chunk of this can be found in the country’s northern Limpopo province, the site of numerous parks and game reserves. South Africa’s biggest, the Greater Kruger National Park, offers some of the best game viewing on the continent. All the Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino) can be found here, as well as cheetahs, hippos and endangered African hunting dogs. The landscape itself is no less spectacular, with everything from riverine forest to Baobab sandveld, rocky valleys to crocodile-infested lakes!
Based at the stunning Sabi Sands Games Reserve, this photographic safari guarantees some spectacular animal encounters! You’ll enjoy two three-hour game drives and a walking safari each day, so be prepared for some awesome photo opportunities; bathing hippos, basking lions and bashful baby elephants are just some of the enchanting sites! You’ll also have a chance to visit local villages, get involved with a lion breeding project and even befriend a tame cheetah! During the game drives you’ll be accompanied by an expert bush guide and your photography tutor to develop your knowledge of both wildlife and wildlife photography. In addition, throughout the tour there’ll be workshops on all things photographic, from camera use to composition, designed to get you producing professional quality snaps in next to no time!
This is a real gem: an unforgettable encounter with some of the world’s most spectacular wildlife and an opportunity to learn a craft while you’re at it! We’ve been racking our brains to try and think of someone who wouldn’t enjoy this tour, but short of a terminal zoophobe we’re lost for ideas! Okay, so experienced photographers won’t get as much out of the hands-on tuition and workshops. And if you’re not a fan of early starts you might get a little disgruntled: dawn is one of the best times to view animals. But if you’ve ever leafed through an issue of National Geographic and been charmed by a stunning shot of a cavalcade of zebra or lion cubs at play, well, that could be you! (Taking the shot, that is, not the zebra or lions!)
