Riebeek Valley panorama Cape Town wine tours

Cape Town wine tours with a difference, taking you to a beautiful off the beaten track foodie valley to explore wineries and olive oil producers.

The Riebeek Valley is pretty much unknown to foreign visitors, in fact ask the locals and most haven't heard of it either. It features some superb wine and olive oil producers and stunning scenery. Perhaps it's most renowned estate is Allesverloren, the home to one of South Africa’s best loved ports and an interesting assortment of red wines from port grape varietals. In recent years this beautiful valley has attracted a large number of foodies and now boasts some marvellous gourmet country restaurants.

Your first stop is at Kloovenberg estate. This estate was one of the first in the valley and dates back 300 years. It is owned by Pieter Du Toit. Pieter focuses on making wine and Shiraz is his passion. Pieter's wife also produces a wide variety of olive products, from olive oil to olive soap. From here you will move onto the Olive Boutique to visit Mike & Margie Meredith. They do a talk on the olive industry in the country and explain the production of olive oil. They are simply mad about olives and have an extensive range of products to try. Of course, there will be time for a relaxed lunch at one of the many fine restaurants in the valley. Finally, a must after lunch is a stop for a port tasting to cap off a wonderful gourmet day.

If you've already tried the classic Stellenbosch and Franshoek wine tour then this is a great way to get off the beaten track and explore a beautiful foodie valley. To really get the most from the tour we'd recommend that you like wine and you like olives. Given those tastes (which seem to come to most of us with age) then you are in for a fantastic day. You'll have a private guide with you who will be able to tailor the pace of the day to suit your interests.
