Itinerary

Overview

  • Explore the souks and winding derbs of Marrakech's Medina
  • Discover the valleys & peaks of the Atlas Mountains on foot on on 2 wheels
  • Traditional boutique riad in Marrakech
  • Boutique guest house in the High Atlas Mountains
This twin centre holiday takes in our two favourite places in Morocco; Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains. This new itinerary has been created for those who like to be active, but still want to sleep in a comfortable bed at the end of the day. Beginning in Marrakech, you will spend three days based in a boutique riad in a central location in the medina. From here, you can explore the souks, visit the local sights and take an excursion to the colourful and exotic Majorelle Gardens. The highlight of a stay for many is an evening visit to the main square, the Djemma el Fna. Once dusk falls, storytellers, jugglers, street entertainers, snake charmers and musicians all gather to perform. It is a sight to behold. If you are visiting the in summer months, then there is a water park in the Palmery, which can be a fun antidote to the sight seeing.

After a few days in Marrakech, we will then take you out to the Atlas Mountains, where you will be based in a boutique guest house in the village of Imlil. You will have a guide at your disposal for the next two days. Your exact activities depend on your family and your preferences, but we suggest that you spend the first day out walking in the Mountains with your guide. We will provide a mule and riding hats, so that if your children are tired they can ride instead of walk. Depending on your preferences, you may explore some of the local villages, or climb up to one of the passes for far-reaching views. All options will include a Berber picnic, enjoyed in a beautiful location. Your second day can be a repeat of the first with more walking, or you can go mountain biking for a day with your guide. Again, the intensity and exact itinerary will depend on your preferences. All of your options in the Mountains will be with your own private guide, so that you can all enjoy your family adventure together.

When is best?

This trip can be enjoyed throughout the year. The winter months in the mountains are usually fine as you will be trekking below the snow-line, it tends to be mild during the day, but the evenings are cold. The same applies for Marrakech, where you can expect warm days, but chilly evenings.

Summer time temperatures in Marrakech can reach the mid 40's, but it is more bearable in the mountains. All accommodation that we use is air-conditioned and at this time of year we usually use riads that are equipped with a plunge pool.

  • I would recommend Tourdust to anyone looking for a family holiday in Morocco and would use them again. There were no hitches and enjoyed by everyone, no mean feat considering our age range, 6 to 78 years.

  • Service rating : Tourdust - what can I say - THANK YOU.
I don't think I would have gone for this holiday had I not spoken to Ben at Tourdust who had done this trip with his children for himself.
During our time in Morocco it became clear that Tourdust have done their research first hand and in detail. Their standards are high and their efforts have paid off. Every thing went to plan, ran smoothly, made us feel both comfortable and safe and all advise given before and during was both very good and very useful. I am not in the habit of recommending people or companies but in this case I make an exception.
Where do we go to next?
Product : I cannot praise this holiday highly enough. It exceeded my expectations in every way.The accommodation was spot on, the itinerary was non stop, the food superb, the trek spectacular but most importantly the people were all fabulous, nothing was too much trouble and I feel that my family and I have made many new friends, Will will return in the future.
This is not your average holiday, you will not always have a lavish bathroom, you wont go shopping in Beverly hills but you will see another side to life and come to appreciate what you have in life. This is not the most expensive holiday, but pound for pound it punches well above it,s weight. As an adventure, as a cultural experience, as an eye opener to life elsewhere in the world this is it! If you are, as I was a little unsure about this type of experience I would say JUST DO IT. You will not regret it.
We have taken over two thousand photographs in a week but most importantly we have the memories to remember it by. Having snowball fights with our guides in thirty degree heat, wading across raging rivers, collapsing worn out into bed before a glorious sunset the like of which I have never seen are just a few of the highlights. If my children aged ten and twelve can do this trek without one word of complaint simply because of all the marvelous distractions all around that don't give them the opportunity to think about their tired legs then you can too.
