Diamond Beach Village, Lamu

Diamond Beach Village is a simple, rustic collection of beach huts (Bandas) overlooking the Indian Ocean and our easily our favourite beach resort in Kenya. With loads of local input and just the right amount of comfort and style, this place strikes the perfect balance.

Diamond Beach Village sits on Manda Island, a lovely Island with long sandy beaches protected from the Indian Ocean by the surrounding Lamu archipelago. Manda has two historic abandoned towns, Takwa and Manda, but the main reason for visiting is to relax on enjoy the beach, sun and warm sea!

The lodge is located right on the beach with blissful views of the Indian Ocean, Dhows sailing past and Shela Village in the distance. With a small intimate atmosphere and only a handful of bandas on offer, it is easy to let the days slip by as they pass by in a blur of cool ocean dips, hot sun and pre-dinner drinks overlooking the sunset. If you do want to be more active then it is a perfect base to explore Lamu and the local sights or arrange dhow sailing trip.

This is the perfect place for anyone who wants to relax away from the stresses of life. It would fit perfectly as a bolt on after a safari, or as a destination in its own right. Whilst a lot of care is taken over the style and comfort, please don’t come expecting the luxuries of a boutique hotel, this place is about the ambience and the beach, more of a robinson crusoe experience than a W Hotel experience!
