Tipi Holiday near Hay on Wye

Enjoy a long weekend or a week’s stay in a tipi set in four acres of meadows and woodland in the England-Wales borderland. Feed pigs at the owner’s farm, hunt for freshly-laid eggs from their chickens, and laze about on beanbags and hammocks. Each tipi sleeps four, so they make great family getaways.

You don’t have to trek halfway around the world for a gorgeous holiday setting, in fact, there are plenty of perfect places right on your doorstep. And that’s just the case here in the heart of the England-Wales borderland of Herefordshire. Set off the beaten track in four acres of meadows and woodland, is where you’ll find this little group of tipis. The literary market town of Hay-on-Wye is close by, as too, are the Offa’s Dyke Path and the Brecon Beacons National Park.

It’s fair to say, with just two tipis and one geodesic dome set in four acres of countryside, you’ll feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of modern day life here. And that’s really the main appeal. Wake to birdsong, fresh air – and breakfast in the great outdoors. Potter around the site and explore the local woodland, meadows and streams, or just lounge in one of the hammocks with a good book. If you’re after more energetic pursuits, mountain biking, canoeing on the River Wye and horse riding are all available nearby.

Maybe you’ve never been camping and fancy easing yourself in gently to the great outdoors. Or maybe you’re a keen camper but fancy something a little more up-market. Either way, these tipis are great. They’re kitted out with a double futon and two single futons so you can leave that thin roll-up camping mat at home. And if you’re looking for a family-bonding holiday you can’t get much better than this. Kids will love the freedom they offer, and you can also bring your dog – if it’s well-behaved and kept under control.
