Overview

Located in the the Madikwe Game Reserve, 4 - 5 hours north east of Johannesburg, Impodimo offers a fantastic safari experience for families. Designed to give guests a real bush experience, the 8 suites are spread out giving a true feeling of privacy. Two of the suites overlook a water hole, whilst the others are open to the bush, meaning that you can spot wildlife whilst in your outdoor shower! The suites sleep two adults and additional children can be accommodated on stretcher beds. Alternatively, you could opt for one of the deluxe suites with private plunge pool and separate sleeping areas for parents and children.

At the main lodge, there is a large eating area, boma and a good sized unheated swimming pool. There is also a children's area where kids can watch tv and do some crafting activities. The lodge is unfenced, so in the evenings, you must be accompanied by a ranger going to and from your room. You get a real sense of the wild here.

Game drives are twice a day and you have both a ranger and a guide, which is a rarity for this reserve. A fantastic option for families looking for a low-risk malaria safari holiday, the 75.000 hectare Madikwe game reserve is rich in wildlife and offers a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of the elusive wild dogs.

We recommend Impodimo as an excellent option for families looking for a malaria free safari in South Africa. Madikwe Game Reserve has a significant trade in short stay visitors from Johannesburg and, as a consequence, some of the larger lodges have a slightly more commercial feel. Impodimo does not fall into that category. It may not be the flashiest option in the park, but the staff greet you like an old friend and go to great lengths to make you feel at home. Suites are spacious, with gorgeous bathrooms and offer unique terraces with direct access and views to the plains. Children are well catered for with a kids room to play in and kitchen staff sympathetic to fussy appetites. There is a kiddies program, with each child receiving a personalised pack with goodies and activities to do in between safaris. Some of the supervised activities include biscuit baking and decoration, plaster casting of animal tracks, paper mask making, and art using leaves and seeds collected whilst enjoying a guided educational kiddies walk around the camp! Baby sitting facilities are available, so that parents can enjoy a safari or dinner without having to worry about their children. Children over the age of 6 years are allowed to join the normal safari. For those with younger children Impodimo organises a “kiddies bumble” safari which is much shorter and aimed at younger children, avoiding deliberate close encounters with dangerous game and making the experience more tactile and varied in order to keep their attention.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
