Overview

Lovingly furnished luxury lodge with a relaxed but indulgent ambience attached to one of the region’s best restaurants with stunning views over the gently meandering River Bitou. It is a great options for couples and has some family room available.

Emily Moon River Lodge has eight large lodge suites each with a private deck or garden overlooking a classic African river landscape, yet only a few miles outside Plettenberg Bay and all the local attractions and beaches. The restaurant, pool area and lodge suites are superbly decorated with a striking, but inviting Colonial-chic feel. Six of the lodge suites have stunning private decks with sweeping views over the vlei (wetlands), whilst the remaining two newer garden suites are set back without the views, but with lovely private garden settings.

Guests take breakfast in the main restaurant, before it transforms itself into a very popular restaurant. The restaurant itself is both a pro and a con. On one hand, you have a fantastic restaurant in stumbling distance from you bed. On the other hand, it gets busy and there aren’t so many communal spaces left for hotel guests. A recent and welcome addition is a private pool area for guests set away from the main restaurant and pool (open to outsiders).

For Families: Emily Moon has a couple of lovely family suites and whilst there are better options nearby for families (with more communal space and without the popular restaurant) it is still a very good option. There are canoes which can be used free of charge to paddle up the River Bitou and the location is perfect for exploring the Garden Route and all it has to offer. There is a policy in place of only allowing children 8 years and older, the best room for families is the Garden Suite which sleeps 4 and can be combined with the adjoining Garden Suite to sleep a larger family.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
